Busch brothers, poor Jimmie and a million dollars...hello Texas!

As we have mentioned a few times, we have been slightly out of the circuit for the past month or so with this blog. Between moving, traveling and my brother getting married, things have been slightly disarray. Anywho, wait...Did I really just watched Kurt Busch car surf on his victory lap? Didn't he learn anything from Jimmie Johnson golf cart surfing escapade? Sorry for the sidetrack.

Jimmie Johnson's early crash tightened the chase and brought a little more excitement back to this sport (and totally screwed up my fantasy league). Don't get me wrong, I adore Jimmie and Chad. I think they are a fantastic team. But lordy mae, I have been to the last 3 Homestead races and I can't bear to watch them get another trophy in two weeks. As of the end of today's race, the difference between first and second place is a mere 73 points. Will our hometown Daytona Beach favorite, Mark Martin finally get the trophy he has sought after for all these years??

This race was all about the Busch Brothers. Kyle Busch lead 232 laps and ran out of gas last minute. He was so close to getting a triple in Texas and that gas oops handed his Big Brother his first win in Texas. I must state, I watched this race with some bitterness. I adore Steve Addington and was not happy with the fact he was replaced as Kyles Crew Chief. I can honestly say that I pouted when Kyle lead all those laps. But it leaves one to ponder....would Steve allow Kyle to run out of gas on the final laps???

So, Dickies did this promo called the 2009 Dickies American Worker of the Year. An agricultural teacher and horse teacher by the name of Michael McGee from Broken Bow, Oklahoma ended up becoming the finalist of this competition which allowed him to randomly select one of the twelve drivers in the chase to win. If his selected driver won, he would instantly become a millionaire.
Michael McGee and Richard Childress

And his driver was? Drum roll please........Kurt Busch. Wow, talk about the luck there! I feel like playing the power ball this week!

There are only two races left in the season boys and girls. After JJ's bad luck today, do you think he will still walk away with his forth (yawn) trophy? As a Daytona girl and someone who has a soft spot in her heart for Mark Martin (via the Ginn Racing days), I truly hope not. I will be in Homestead, cheering Mark on and hope to make history watching him clench his title.

Halloween Hallowdega Happy Happy Hour

Wow try saying that title 3 times fast! HAPPY HALLOWDEGA! Nothing screams Halloween better than a candy apple. So in honor of today's Happy Hour, we are bringing you the Candy Apple Martini along with a recipe for a cinnamon candy apple. So let's eat, drink and be scary while following along with Happy Hour here.

Candy Apple Martini
1 oz Vodka (try Van Goghs Wild Appel Vodka, its the best)
1/2 oz butterscotch schnapps
1 oz apple pucker
1 oz cranberry juice

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake firmly and pour into a cocktail glass. Serve.

And for the kiddies or kids at heart.....from our friends at the Food Network: Paula Deens Red Cinnamon Candy Apple
1 cup water
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 cups sugar
1 tsp cinnamon flavoring
1 tsp red coloring
1 dozen wooden craft sticks
1 dozen small firm apples

Boil water, syrup, and sugar together until a brown caramel color is reached (at about 250 degrees F on a candy thermometer). Remove from the heat and add cinnamon and red coloring. Cool slightly. Meanwhile force a stick into the core of each apple. Dip the apples 1 at a time into the heavy red syrup, drain well, and place on a buttered baking sheet to cool.

The Original Fashionistas-Miss Winston

Long before their was a cute perma-grin Miss Sprint Cup girl in Victory Lane, there was Miss Winston. According to their website, Miss Winston was a public relations spokesperson for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in conjunction with the NASCAR Winston Cup Racng Series. The idea remains the same, but it just seemed a little more glamorous back in the day. One of my very good friends was Miss Winston, circa....she wont say. I wanted to share these pictures with you as I renegotiate my Halloween costume idea.
Miss Winston and Bobby Allison

James Garner, aka Mike Rockford

Paul Newman, love the shades!

Mr. Bill France

Happy Halloween eve!!

In celebration of my FAVORITE HOLIDAY EVER, here are some old pics we dug up for you of some of your favorite drivers dressed up!

Jeff & Ingrid Hook

My favorite of all, Tony Stewart as Elvis and Ricky Rackman as Pooh Bear & a blogger named John as K-Fed

What doJuan Pablo Montoya, Tacos and College Football have in common?

In case you missed it.....ESPN college football analyst Bob Griese was suspended for one week for a "racial" comment made about Juan Pablo Montoya during last Saturday's Ohio State game. ESPN was doing a promo during the football game, showing the top 5 drivers in the chase. Montoya fell out of the top 5 after his bad race in Charlotte. Going into the Martinsville race, Montoya dropped to number 6 in standings. So when the other announcer asked where Montoya was, Griese responded "He's out having a Taco"

Here is the audio clip of the comment and Griese's semi-awkward apology.

And what did Montoya have to say about this? "I don't know who it is. Somebody mentioned it to me. I don't really care to tell you the truth. I don't. I could say I spent the last three hours eating tacos, but I was actually driving a car. That's OK, I don't care."

Oh no AJ! Allmendinger arrested for DUI

Just following the announcement that AJ Allmendinger was to replace Reed Sorenson in the famed #43 car owned by Richard Petty Motorsports came a major announcement. Mr. Allmendinger was arrested around 1:30am this morning and failed a field sobriety test. Here is the kicker....anyone that knows anything about NASCAR, knows that the King himself is against alcohol, even to the point that he wont allow an alcohol related sponsorships on his cars. If he wont take money from a sponsor that endorses alcohol, how is he going to react to his driver failing a sobriety test?

AJ blew a .08 which is the bottom line what is considered legally drunk in NC. There are times when many of us driven when we shouldn't. But with that being said, I know many people in this sport who are VERY cautious when it comes to drinking in driving by always having a DD or is smart enough to call a taxi, even after one drink.

After his arrest, Allmendinger was released without having to post bond. He had drinks with dinner and had this to say about the arrest "I honestly felt fine, but I obviously should have erred more on the side of caution, particularly given what I do for a living," "It was a bad judgment call and I apologize for that." Stay tuned to hear what RPM has to say about all this.

Looking for the perfect pair of jeans?

I am a recovering designer jean addict. There, I said it. I had no idea I had a problem until one day, my closet shelve containing my jeans came crashing down and I decided to count them. 42. Yes, I said 42 pairs of designer jeans, everything from William Rast to True Religion to Rock & Republic and more (and I wonder why I am broke!). My friends literally put me on "jeans restriction". I have been very good this year, only breaking down once or twice to purchase a pair that was on crazy sale.

Then we received an email from a really nice girl named Meg who works at Thimbler. She wanted to introduce us to their line of Custom Jeans. I saw those two words and had to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I have to state that I am 5'10" and all of the "long" length jeans on the market are too short for me. My inseam is 35 1/2" which is what started my designer jeans addiction (they all come in extremely long lengths which means I don't have to get them altered).

So, I designed my jeans online, which was very easy. There are so many different options: the style of the jeans, color, washing effects, pocket style, hip butt and stomach shape. When I got my jeans, I was ecstatic....they fit me perfect and actually made me look like I have a butt!! I wore them all day and they didn't stretch out. I got them in the perfect length so I could pair them with boots or flats on pit road. This jean snob is very impressed.

Needless to say, I am very impressed with Thimbler. You can create your own pair here . They are priced very well and they offer 20% off your first custom order. Thimbler is always doing fun promos so make sure you follow them on Twitter here and become a fan of their Facebook page here.

Where have we been??

Hello there my loves! Just wanted to check in and say yes we have made it home from our vacation, and have been crazy busy ever since. Megan has been down for a week with H1N1 and I have been readjusting to my real job's new work schedule.

But we are here and we are back! We had an amazing trip to the Big Apple and last week, I had the privilege of going to a charity event at Lynda and Mike Helton's house. If I can just tell you that my jaw is still on the ground at the amazingness of this house.

Mrs. Helton also might be the nicest person on the planet. In other NASCAR news, we are preparing our livers for our friends to come to Daytona to do some tire testing here next week. Be assured that there will be some news and gossip especially when there are some drivers that will be testing with their new teams as the silly season truly starts to gain some speed. NASCAR on Fox reports that Brad Keselowski will be doing some tests for Penske, but we have a feeling....ok we know that this wont be the only change in latitude this week.

I must add that I can't imagine anything scarier than Talladega during Halloween, so I am sure we will have a lot to talk about this week.

Till then,

Darlynn and Megan

Michael Waltrip involved in a crash but passed sobriety test(s)

For the first time in over one week, I turn on my computer, go to NASCAR.com and see the headline Waltrip not injured in crash with motorcycle in N.C. At first, I thought the amount of medicine I have consumed over the past week blurred my vision and I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't reading a headline from 2007.

But no, it wasn't the delirium of being jacked up on Mucinex over the past week, this is real life. Mikey, who no longer has rookie stripes for off track wrecks collided his Lexus with with a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Wednesday evening. The motorcyclist was taken to Lake Norman Regional Center.

Waltrip passed the field sobriety test and was later given a Breathalyzer that registered at .06 (legal limit in NC is .08). Thankfully for him, he didn't go for the next drink.

I really like Mikey as a person. I have shared a few good laughs with the guy. It just seems to me like bad luck follows him like the plague.

Jamie France makes Jeremy Mayfield anctics look like Kindercare.

So I sat on this for a couple of minutes. Being from Daytona, and living on said street of incident for about 12 years, and then seeing it on TMZ...I really have to do this.

I must start by stating that we have the utmost respect for the Frances...Betty Jane and I talk about reality shows whenever I see her, Mr France's funeral had more dignitaries than an inauguration. They are a stand up family that we owe everything to about this sport. But a black sheep is a black sheep. I am not speculating that Bill France's grandson Jamie France (aka JC) is a class a jerk-a-saurus, he used to be married to a girl I know. I have a clear, never to forget memory of us being backstage at a radio festival in Orlando and he was screaming at her and belittling her...quite the guy, huh. And look how hot he is!!As luck would have it, I don't have the pleasure of knowing Grand-Am driver Jamie France's humble half-brother Russell Van Richmond. Both men were both arrested last night for racing each other over the Seabreeze Bridge in Daytona Beach as well as both charged with DUI and possession of crack cocaine.

Some quotes from the half brother Russell Van Richmond who is apparently very important in our town (we have never heard of him):

"I want your commander now. I am a France. Do you know what that means? We own this city."

"Oh no you're not. Do you know who I am?"

"I am a France" and, "We own this city."

"Do you know who I am? You are done,"

"I am gonna have your job. This is the biggest mistake ever. You are so done in Daytona."

and the best one??

"Oh, (expletive deleted)" - was uttered after the officer rifled through his pants pockets and also found a plastic bag with cocaine in it, the report shows according to the Daytona Beach News Journal.

In other lands of brilliance, a woman riding in the front seat with Richmond - who said she hardly knew him - told police, "He (Richmond) was going so fast, I put my seat belt on," the report states. You are so smart, punkin!

These are two grown "living the dream" men in their forties who were so wasted shortly after midnight that if you or I were driving- we would be victims of circumstance of their juvenile stunt . I guess that is what makes me so angry. Both men posted bail today

Bad couple of months for JC, who just lost his dog. How did his dog die?? He decided to go to Hyde Park in Daytona and leave his car running in the valet while he went and dined. Dont worry, the air was on full blast...until the poor baby switched it to heat and died from the temperature.

And you thought Daytona made news just for the race!!

Somewhere on ISB, there will be Bloody Mary Specials

Well, this is guess this is really gonna alter our plans. The Daytona International Speedway announced today an earlier starting time for 2010. The Daytona 500 this February will start at a oh my goodness that is early 1pm. Now, back in the day when I was a little fashionista I remember that Uncle Pete and my mother would get up at the crack of dawn and off they would go. One of his major complaints was that the race gets over too darn late. Well, the gods must be listening! The scheduled start time for the 52nd annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 14, the prestigious season opener to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, will be at 1 p.m. ET. The starting time for the 2010 Daytona 500 is the earliest since the 2003 Daytona 500 and it’s 2 ½ hours earlier than the 2009 Daytona 500.

"An earlier starting time for the Daytona 500 is great news for our race fans,” Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig said. “In recent years, race fans made their desire very clear for an earlier starting time and with the help of our partners in the sport at NASCAR and FOX Sports, we’re proud to deliver an earlier starting time for the 2010 Daytona 500.”

"Earlier and more consistent start times is another important issue to the core NASCAR fans and we were determined to make the change this year beginning with the Daytona 500," said NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France. "I appreciate the input and cooperation on behalf of Daytona International Speedway and FOX Sports to make this happen."

“The Daytona 500 is the premier event in all of auto racing and after listening to the NASCAR fans, we are excited about the new earlier start time,” said FOX Sports Chairman David Hill. “There is nothing like the energy and excitement of starting the season with the best drivers in the world competing on this extraordinary and historic track. We are counting down the days until February 14.”

The Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s signature event and is the biggest, richest and most prestigious stock car race in the world.

Since the inaugural Daytona 500 back in 1959 when it took 61 hours to determine Lee Petty won by two feet, “The Great American Race” is steep in history with a list of legendary winners that includes seven-time champion Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Allison, David Pearson, A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti and the late Dale Earnhardt.

“The Great American Race” has experienced its share of great finishes such as the iconic finish of the 1976 Daytona 500 when Petty and Pearson crashed coming out of Turn 4, the famous fight between the Allisons and Yarborough and Dale Earnhardt’s emotional victory in 1998 Daytona 500 on his 20th attempt.

Tickets for the 52nd annual Daytona 500, which start at $55, as well as other Speedweeks 2010 events are available at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.

Now the real question is...where are we gonna get our drink on, pre-race??

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies.....

SO, our favorite shirtless NASCAR driver, Carl Edwards, is not only gonna appear in ESPN The Body's magazine...but girls, HE IS OUR COVER BOY!!!!

Drum roll please.....presenting the cover of ESPN The Body Issue (also my new desktop image):

NASCAR star Carl Edwards is one of six cover athletes who will appear on ESPN The Magazine’s cover for its inaugural "Body Issue". The Body Issue, on newsstands Friday, Oct. 9, will feature nearly 80 athletes from a variety of sports in a celebration and exploration of the athletic form. The issue honors athletes of diverse shapes, sizes, genders and races within the boundaries of taste and frontiers of creativity upon which ESPN The Magazine and ESPN have built their reputations. It is a testament to the work the athletes do, the effort they exert and the price they sometimes pay in reliance on their most important asset – their bodies.

Special Delivery, Brienne Pedigo has Baby Boy!

Brienne Pedigo, pit reporter for ESPN on ABC’s coverage of the IndyCar Series, and her husband, actor Tyler Christopher of ABC’s General Hospital, welcomed their new baby boy on Saturday, October 3. Greyson James Christopher was born at 2:57 a.m. and weighed in at 7 lb. 11 oz.

Back in June, we reported that Brienne designed a mama to be friendly firesuit and you can read about it here!

Congrats Brienne and Tyler. We can't wait to see pics of Greyson.

When worlds collide...love it!

Awww....the new Melrose Place and the Nationwide Race in the same sentence.... we must be in California!! The Nationwide race will be that much more interesting this week, when driver Stanton Barrett will pilot the #31 car with a new sponsor-Bantam Books "Family Affair", a new book by Caprice Crane who is a writer for the brand new series Melrose Place that airs Tuesdays on the CW. She is also the daughter of Tina Louise who is better known as Ginger on Gilligans Island to you and me. You can follow Caprice on twitter @capricecrane & purchase her book here.

Sean Spiros who plays David on the new Melrose Place and is ridculous hot will be an honorary member of the #31 race team. If the words, just stand there and look pretty mean anything to you...I think he will do JUST fine. This race just got a whole lot less boring, hee hee!

Comments from Stanton Barrett,

“I am excited to have this opportunity with publisher Bantam Books having Family Affair as one of our sponsors. It is very exciting to share three things I love and have a passion for – the movie business, great creative novels and auto racing. For the first time in my career, I have the opportunity to run a sponsorship from someone who is part of the film industry, which I have worked in for over 22 years.

“Recently, it feels like my life reads like a novel. I raced in Japan a few weeks ago in IndyCar, and now I’m back with the Nationwide car preparing for California. Right now, it seems like every day is something new – a new page. I’m working on preparing for next season and pulling some stuff together. It’s great to have support from my friends in Hollywood.

“I can’t wait to get back in the car at the Fontana race. And it’s going to be cool to have Shaun Sipos attend and have a little bit of Hollywood there at the track with me.”

Wanna appear in a Music Video?

If you are going to be at the Pepsi 500 in Fontana this weekend, you may have the opportunity to appear in a music video for Foreigner!! Foreigner is shooting a video for "Can't Slow Down" on Sunday, October 11. If you want to take part of the taping, find your way to the main stage in the Opportunity, California FanZone at 10:15am

This may have to be one of the coolest NASCAR promos I have ever seen. We were present in 2003 when Rascal Flatts filmed the concert special "Melt on the Beach". We watched from afar, well honestly from the second story of a bar, while all the crazy Spring Breakers went gaga. I would love to be a fly on the wall this weekend at this shoot.

This isn't the first time Foreigner has appeared at a NASCAR track this season. They were the pre-race entertainment in April's Texas race and are scheduled to appear at other tracks throughout the 2010 season. We're feeling a Little Hot Blooded.

If you want more information on appearing in the music video, click here to be taken to the Auto Club Speedways press release.

NASCAR Hollywood style

I always love when the boys go to Fontana. It always leaves room for plenty of off track stuff to talk about pre and post race.

If you haven't heard, there are quite a few famous faces appearing at The Pepsi 500 on Sunday. Not only is Foreigner filming a live music video but the Honorary Starters are...........
Honorary Starter: Audrina Partridge
Pace Car Driver: Christian Slater
National Anthem: Jessie McCartney
Grand Marshall: Kelsey Grammer

Um, really?? Audrina Partridge? For those who don't watch Mtv, Audrina is a star on their "reality show" The Hills which is the same show that brought us Speidi. I am at a loss on this.

Meanwhile, The Copart 300 Honorary Starter is Kelly Osbourne.

Kansas Notes from the Track

First Artifact Comes From Daytona for
NASCAR Hall of Fame
One of four Unocal 76 balls that were used starting in 1969 as spotter balls in Daytona was moved into its new home this week, the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC. Being a Daytonaian, I think its gonna ping my heart each time they move something AWAY from this area to put in its new home....in Charlotte. Sigh. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is scheduled to open in May 2010.

Carl Edwards...a free man! Off crutches that is...
Carl Edwards is hoping to ditch the crutches he's been using in the next couple days. Breaking his right foot in September during a game of...um...frisbee...looks like he will be gimpy no more very soon. "Just one more week on the crutches, and, trust me, I can't wait," Edwards said. "That's fine. It's not a factor in the car, just getting around." I have a feeling he will need his legs to be strong to run away from screaming fans once this ESPN the Magazine cover hits stands on Friday.

Drivers to play in game show, Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Michael Waltrip, David Ragan (pictured above with Foxworthy), Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch and Denny Hamlin will all compete in Jeff Foxworthy's game show, that is now in five day a week syndication on MyNetwork TV. Michael and David will compete on back to back episodes this Tuesday. Check your local listings.
On October 26th NASCAR week kicks off on the new nationally syndicated "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, and Denny Hamlin are among the contestants will put their knowledge to the test and play for their favorite charities. Check your local listings for exact air time.

Looking forward to California...Racefest on Thursday

Oh my oh my....

I'm sure this post is going to make all of our guy followers gag and quite possibly take some credibility away from us....yet a girl has to do what a girl has to do.

ESPN the Magazine has given us another treat. Hitting the stands on October 9th, ESPN The Magazine's first Body Issue will feature more than 30 male and female athletes posing nude or semi-nude. So, go ahead and ask yourself, which one of your favorite shirtless NASCAR drivers are included in this?? Bet you didn't guess Carl Edwards, lol. We will NEVER get tired of seeing Carl shirtless. Yet the preview of this layout caused my jaw to drop.

Um Hello.....

Oh, and ladies...if that isn't enough??? In another photo, he strips down to nothing but boxer-briefs. Dear god help us all.
